The Buycott App

So, I'm kind of new to this whole socially conscious shopping way of life...new in the way that I've started adjusting my shopping techniques away from a "This is cute and on sale so I guess I'll buy it" mentality to, "Who made this product? What's the story behind it?"
Or I'm trying to.
I've noticed that, while it's gotten easier to do the research on clothes to see if they are ethically made, it can be harder with items like cereal or toilet paper. I was having a conversation with Molly (founder of The Simple Kind) about how this issue is so big! It covers everything that we buy, and that can be so overwhelming.
But now....there's an app for that!
MTV News did an interview with Ivan Pardo about his new app "Buycott". This free app lets you scan an item at the grocery store and get information about both the company and the parent company. You can go in and select campaigns that are important to you (such as human trafficking, animal testing, LGBTQ, education, and tons more) and see how the companies stand both with their words and their money. It gives you the opportunity to support companies and causes you believe in while at the grocery store!
You have a voice, and your voice is important. Utilizing Buycott's services is another way to join the conversation. Something as commonplace as grocery shopping can become a way to take a stand for something you believe in.
